Snapshots of Cuba: Havana + Matanzas

Chico y Rita had just been released.

My mum, a Spanish speaker and Fidel Castro aficionado, suggested we go watch it together.

Brixton Ritzy cinema. 1940s Havana was the backdrop, and a buxom young beauty crooned warm melodies over jazz fusions.  Images of love, betrayal and music flooded the screen – it stirred something in me.

I knew then and there that visiting Cuba was an absolute necessity.

In the summer of 2015 a group of us made that a reality.
